Pentecost VII: Fruits, Good and Bad - Fr. Philip Eldracher 07-27-25
Download MP3A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. Wherefore, by their fruits, you shall know them. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:All throughout history, dear faithful, the holy Catholic church has been conspicuous in her saints. At every age of history, in every place, in every circumstance and walk of life, whether young or old, married or single, rich or poor, the church has been conspicuous in her saints. There have been at all times saints and even many saints in the Catholic church and this is a necessary consequence of the holiness of the church. Holiness, as we know, is one of those four marks, those four signs by which the true religion is to be discovered. Which is the church established by Christ? It is that church which is one, which is holy, which is catholic, and which is apostolic.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:The church must necessarily be holy because her divine founder, our Lord Jesus Christ, as God is the author and source of all holiness. It is impossible that God himself should create or establish something which is by its nature wicked and therefore the church must be holy because her divine founder is holy. The church is holy likewise because everything which she teaches is also holy. For the teaching of the church is the reiteration of all those things which have been revealed by God and nothing revealed by God can be contrary to holiness or lead away from it. There is no more sublime doctrine, there is no more sublime code of conduct than that which is presented to the human race by God through his mouthpiece, the holy Catholic church.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:The purpose for which Christ has established his church is the sanctification of the human race. That men by adhering to the church and following her doctrine should become holy. And as we see in today's gospel, our Lord declares that every good tree bringeth forth good fruit. The church has produced countless saints and for the church to make the human race holy, the church must be herself first holy. Without this charism of holiness, it would be impossible that the church should cause so much as a single person to become holy.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:In today's gospel, our Lord also declares that a good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit. Now, if we are to look at the fruits of Vatican two, we must conclude that these are evil fruits because of the effect which they have had on the spiritual lives of countless millions since Vatican II. Vatican II, among other heresies, promotes religious liberty and ecumenism, both of which had previously been solemnly condemned by the holy Catholic church through the voice of the popes in their encyclicals. Religious liberty declares that every man has a God given right, for no right can exist but that which ultimately comes from God. A God given right to reject the religion revealed by God.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:For if every man has the freedom, the right to choose, to adhere to whichever religion he wishes, he is therefore given by God the right to repudiate the one religion revealed by God. Ecumenism is, we might say, the other side of the same coin. For religious liberty and ecumenism go together. Ecumenism says that all religions are a means of salvation and it is because of ecumenism, which is a heresy, that one might propose religious liberty. For if all religions are means of salvation, then indeed yes, all men do have a right to choose whichever of these means of salvation they wish to follow.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:But both ecumenism and religious liberty are heresies contrary to faith, contrary to the religion established by Christ, and we see their fruits in the modern world, fruits which no one could say are good fruits. We see countless souls who have abandoned the practice of the faith in consequence of Vatican two. Those who claim to be Catholic, but yet make no effort to practice their religion. Only 10 or 20% perhaps even bother to go to church at all. We also see as a result of Vatican two, countless souls abandoning the religious life or the holy priesthood to go off and live as seculars contrary to the solemn vows which they had made before God.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:Only a tiny percentage of those in the novus ordo even believe in the real presence of Christ in the holy Eucharist. Most 70 or even 80% do not believe in transubstantiation. They do not believe that Christ is truly present in the holy Eucharist. And thus they will say to you, I decided to not go up and receive the bread today. It's just bread after all, they think, and I have had people tell me that.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:Many, if not most in the novus order, think that there is nothing wrong with artificial birth control, or to live in concubinage, to divorce effectively and remarry. Even unnatural perversions are promoted or considered as perfectly acceptable. All of these are evil fruits. And in today's gospel, our blessed Lord solemnly declares that a good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit. Thus we must conclude that Vatican two and its reforms, its changes to the Catholic faith must in fact instead be an evil tree, where they have brought forth evil fruit.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:And as our Lord declares in the gospel today, every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit shall be cut down and shall be cast into the fire. And that is why we make great efforts to come to mass here today because we must reject the changes and the heresies of Vatican two in order to adhere to the holy Catholic church which is established by our blessed Lord. I had said that the church throughout her history has always been conspicious in her saints and this is something that we ourselves ought to dwell upon even often. For if we are to be as we are members of the true church, amongst us also should be saints. We ourselves must be striving to become saints and if we do not bring forth good fruit in our lives, we ourselves shall be cut down and we shall be cast into the eternal fires of hell.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit, and this is something which we must apply as well to our own lives. It is particularly true of parents who are raising children. If you wish your children to become saints, you must strive to become a saint first yourself, or else they shall have no one in their own home to teach them the way to become a saint. This is an important consideration as well for those who consider that marriage might one day be their vocation. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:Marriage is established by God to produce saints. The procreation of children and their education is all in view that they should become saints. Do not marry a person who does not inspire you to become a saint by his own or her own good example. This same principle in today's gospel likewise applies to the schools which we may attend or send our children to attend. It applies to the friends which we surround ourselves with or the entertainments by which we amuse ourselves.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. By their fruits you shall know them. Our Lord concludes today's gospel by warning us that not all those who say to me, Lord, Lord shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. It is not enough for us to have the Catholic faith if we do not also live our Catholic faith. Our blessed Lord declares, he that doth the will of my father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. Let us therefore be among those who not only believe, but also who do the holy will of God. God bless you.
Fr. Philip Eldracher:In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
