Vatican II: An Occasion of Sin - Fr. James Marshall 05-20-25
Download MP3In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary. Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Fr. James Marshall:When the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst. Dear faithful, the miracle of our resurrected Lord in which he penetrated the closed doors of the house where the apostles were gathered and stood in their midst has according to Saint Thomas Aquinas, a mystic meaning, which is this, that the Lord does not enter into our souls unless we keep the door of the senses shut. Today, I will speak about the importance of avoiding the occasions of sin and about how the Vatican II religion and its popes have encouraged occasions of sin in the lives of the faithful.
Fr. James Marshall:To begin with, because of original sin, man has an inborn inclination to sin. Saint Paul recognized this inclination to sin in the war between two opposed laws that he observed within himself. A law of the flesh and the law of reason. He stated, I see another law in my members fighting against the law of my mind and captivating me in the law of sin. Saint Alphonsus Liguori explains that when there is an occasion of sin present, it violently violently excites our corrupt desires so that it is very difficult to resist them.
Fr. James Marshall:He further explains that God withholds efficacious help from those who voluntarily expose themselves to the occasions of sin. Commenting on the verse from Ecclesiasticus which states that he that loveth danger shall perish in it. Saint Thomas Aquinas stated that when we expose ourselves to danger, God abandons us in it. According to Saint Alphonsus, the destruction of our first parents arose from their not flying from the occasions of sin. God had prohibited them not only from eating, but even from touching the forbidden fruit.
Fr. James Marshall:In answer to the serpent tempter, Eve said, God hath commanded us that we should not eat and that we should not touch it. In other words, God's commandment was not only that the sin should not be committed, but also that the occasion of sin should not be entered into. Nevertheless, she looked at the forbidden fruit, took it into her hands, and afterwards ate it. This sequence of events from dialoguing with the tempter to looking at and pondering with the help of the senses, the tempter's suggested action to acting on the tempter's suggestion, whether in thought or in action is what ordinarily happens to all who expose themselves to the occasions of sin. According to Saint Alphonsus, once being compelled by an exorcism to tell which sermon displeased him most, the devil confirmed that it was the sermon on avoiding occasions of sin.
Fr. James Marshall:The patron of confessors added that as long as we expose ourselves to occasions of sin, the devil laughs at all our good purposes and promises to God. In fact, the greatest care of the enemy is to induce us not to avoid the occasions of sin. For these occasions are like avail placed before the eyes as they prevent us from seeing either the lights received from God, the eternal truths, or the resolutions we have made. In short, occasions of sin make us forget all and in the end they induce us to sin. Our Lord succinctly prescribed the remedy for avoiding occasions of sin and saving our souls.
Fr. James Marshall:If thy right eye scandalize thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee. In other words, when there is danger of losing your soul, you must fly from all evil occasions. Interestingly, Saint Francis of Assisi said that the devil does not seek to bind God fearing souls with the chain of mortal sin because these individuals would be alarmed at the thought of committing mortal sin and would fly from it with horror. Rather, the devil endeavors to bind souls that fear God by a single hair of venial sin, which does not excite much fear. By this means, he explained, the devil will succeed more easily in strengthening these people's bonds till he makes them his slaves by the commission of a mortal sin.
Fr. James Marshall:Hence, he who wishes to be free from the danger of being the slave of hell must break all the hairs by which the enemy attempts to bind him. With some people, this might involve the omission of the simplest things such as certain looks or conversations. For others, it might involve the renunciation of certain dangerous friendships or the giving up of property and even employment or other activities. Finally, regarding the sin of impurity in particular, it is not enough to avoid proximate occasions of sin. Since it is so easy to relapse into former sins of impurity even years after having committed the sins, one should also strive to reduce as much as is reasonably possible unnecessary more remote occasions of these sins.
Fr. James Marshall:Saint Augustine stated that the vice of impurity is common, but that the victory over it is rare. To induce a person to expose himself to this sin, the devil will tell him not to be afraid of being overcome by temptation. He will play the so called don't be a coward card, maliciously suggesting that it is more virtuous to be courageous in the face of these temptations rather than to run away for them from them like a coward. But Saint Jerome stated, I do not wish to fight with the hope of victory, lest I should sometimes lose the victory. In other words, I will not expose myself to the combat with the hope of conquering.
Fr. James Marshall:Because by voluntarily engaging in the fight, I shall lose my soul and my God. To escape defeat in this struggle, a great grace of God is necessary. God does not owe his grace to us, but in order to induce him to grant us this grace, we must on our part avoid the occasions of sin. Saint Philip Neri stated it very simply that in the war against the vice of impurity, The victory is gained by cowards. That is by those who fly from the occasions of this sin.
Fr. James Marshall:But the man who exposes himself to it unwittingly arms his flesh and incites it so much that it will be morally impossible for him to resist its lustful demands. In all of this, dear faithful, it is important to understand that all sins have pride as their root. Thus, the process of dialoguing with the father of lies, the devil, of looking at and pondering his suggested action with the help of the senses, and of acting on his suggestions, whether in thought or in action is also rooted in pride. The very process is rooted in pride. And though our Lord will infallibly give us sufficient grace to fight off the temptations that are part of the situations in which he places us, we should never choose to place ourselves in situations of temptation.
Fr. James Marshall:Indeed, we should daily and with frequency pray the words, lead us not into temptation. Saint Bernardine of Siena taught that the council of avoiding the occasions of sin is the best of all councils, and in fact, the foundation of religion. It follows from this that the council of entering into the occasions of sin is the worst of all councils and in fact, the destruction of religion. The Vatican II religion and its popes have placed many Catholics in occasions of sin, indicating that the religion along with its popes is destructive and thus false. The very notion of dialoguing about the faith in which all participants in the dialogue are encouraged to state their heartfelt preferences and convictions, whether these preferences and convictions are in accordance with the Catholic faith or are against it, is at the root of the two winged shifting sands conservative liberal Vatican two religion.
Fr. James Marshall:Such dialoguing is antithetical to the dogmatic teaching of the church for which every member of our Lord's spiritual army, the church militant must be willing to die. The Vatican two religions pride traps or occasions of sins of pride are based on the license given to choose teachings, the form of worship and disciplines according to one's preferences and purely subjective convictions as opposed to the Catholic religions humble body of objective truths of revelation and the rights of the one true and living God. The initiation of the synod on synodality by the Pope of the Vatican II religion, recently deceased, is the perfect example of this and the occasion of many sins of pride for the faithful. Let us thus beg the blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Good Counsel, to guide the church in her election of a true pope, that the church may shut out for good the Vatican II religion and its occasions of sin. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Fr. James Marshall:Amen. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen.
